Learning with Technologies at Mashrek

The Information Technology Department at Mashrek assists in developing the needed skills for the students to contribute to a connected world and be responsible digital citizens. Students are equipped with the needed tools and skills that are transferred across the different disciplines to facilitate creativity and innovation which supports communication and collaboration. 

The provision of technology is supported by providing all classrooms from KG to grade 6 with interactive screens, and grades 7 to 12 with interactive boards to allow for group viewing and discussions. All teachers are provided with laptops, upon request, to ensure that the tools, like Microsoft Teams, Microsoft OneNote and AssessPrep, are effectively used. Mashrek students can access the internet via wired and wireless connections that cover the entire campus. The BYOD system, Bring Your Own Device, is activated for Primary, Middle and Senior School students to facilitate the purposeful use of technology across and within disciplines.

The Design Thinking Programme introduces a variety of tools and equips middle school students from grades 6 to 10 with various skills that are required for life after school. These include coding, 3D printing, robotics, app inventor, filmmaking, Office 365 and other digital tools that assist the students become tech-savvy in our increasingly digital world. This programme was adopted to support the development of ATL skills that the school is promoting through ongoing, process-focused disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and learning.

ICT in the PYP, Digital Design in the MYP and Computer Science in the DP are all subjects that are taught to ensure that the students learn IT skills in every pathway of their school years. Coupled with the Design Thinking Programme, students acquire the needed skills that are required for life during and beyond, school.

From grade 1 to grade 10, Mashrek’s Information Technology Programme emphasizes digital citizenship through using the commonsense curriculum to aid the students use information and technology in a safe and legal way. The school’s practices are guarded by its policies to ensure that the students are using the internet safely and responsibly.
