University Counselling Office

The University Counselling Department at Mashrek International School supports students through a structured and reflective journey toward higher education. Our approach emphasizes exploration, self-awareness, and informed decision-making as students prepare for university study worldwide.

University guidance begins in Grades 9 and 10, where students attend weekly Career Pathways lessons as part of their academic program, designed to help them explore potential careers, identify their interests and strengths, and research academic pathways and universities globally. This program is complemented by experiential learning opportunities including Job Shadowing, the annual Mashrek Career Talk event, and internship placements during the summer following Grade 10, allowing students to gain firsthand exposure to professional environments.
 

These experiences allow students to connect their academic choices with real-world career pathways. By the end of Grade 10, students enter the IB Diploma Programme with a clearer sense of direction and with subject selections that align with their intended university majors and long-term goals.
 

In Grade 11, students begin focused university exploration, research global institutions, and develop individualized application strategies. During Grade 12, the department works closely with both students and parents throughout the application process to ensure thoughtful and well-informed university choices.
Our philosophy centers on helping each student find the right match: institutions where they will be intellectually challenged, socially engaged, and supported as learners, thinkers, and global citizens.

 

Scholarships & University Acceptances

Mashrek students consistently earn a wide range of university scholarships, reflecting their academic achievement and strong preparation. Awards typically range from partial scholarships of around 20% to highly competitive offers of up to 100%. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 46 scholarships were awarded, including 2 full scholarships, with institutions such as the University of California system recognizing our students with generous awards.

Our students have received offers from leading global universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Duke University, University College London, and UCLA, as well as other distinguished institutions including Durham University, IE University, Fordham University, University of California, Irvine, NYU New York and Abu Dhabi, Trinity College Dublin, and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, among many others.

Our University Counselling team works closely with students and families throughout the high school years, providing individualized guidance on academic choices, university exploration, and the global admissions process. Drawing on extensive experience with universities worldwide, our counsellors support students in identifying institutions that align with their academic strengths, interests, and long-term aspirations.
