The Mashrek Learner
High-quality Learning
High-quality learning is one that provides learners with deep conceptual understanding, knowledge, skills and attitudes to promote lifelong learning, maximize each learner’s potential, and empower them to take ownership of their learning as independent and self-regulated learners. It is delivered in an inclusive environment that prioritizes well-being, values diversity, and preserves Arabic culture, while preparing learners to be motivated, future-ready individuals who make a positive impact on their communities and beyond. Our practices are based on twenty research-informed learning principles drawn from psychology and education.
Global Citizenship
Mashrek’s definition of Global Citizenship is to:
• Understand our role in local and global societies, enabling us to act responsibly towards our community and the world while remaining rooted in our national identity.
• Respect and accept the values of diverse cultures that uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals, while maintaining a strong appreciation of our own culture and heritage.
• Demonstrate social responsibility, global competence, and curiosity, and actively promote more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure, and sustainable societies, with awareness of the environment.
Digital Citizenship
A digital citizen possesses the competencies to navigate an ever-evolving digital world and uses digital technologies in an ethical, safe, and socially responsible manner in daily practice. This includes demonstrating digital literacy, critical thinking in evaluating information, and awareness of online safety, AI, and digital risks such as bullying. Digital citizens use technology to enhance learning, support well-being, and participate responsibly in local and global digital communities.
Wellbeing
Student well-being is generally described as a subjective experience where students feel satisfied with themselves, their relationships, and their experiences, and have the ability to experience positive feelings and moods. It includes a sense of belonging, meaningful collaboration and connection with others, and opportunities to engage with their community. Students are able to relate to what they learn and do, and believe that it gives them a sense of purpose and meaning, while being supported through inclusive practices, structured support systems, and opportunities to develop empathy and perspective-taking skills.
